Abstracts

I love to look at the world and dividing it into small pieces and taking each piece in turn and finding something different within. I have often felt isolated from the world around me, lost in the fog of depression and angst of anxiety, breaking it down helps me cope.

Churches

Whilst the interior of churches are colourful, a place to celebrate some of life's most memorable moments the exteriors are somber by comparison.

They are timeless with the world outside their walls and gates rushing by at an every increasing pace. I use to step inside and close the gates and just sit and savour the quiet respectful nature of the surroundings.

Black & White

Roughly half way through my photographic journey to date I started to process my work in both colour and black and white. I soon found my work taking on a new meaning. I found myself looking at my work in more detail. I feel that black and white photographs make the viewer look harder and longer at an image. We have become so us to colour we take things for granted almost dismissing a subject or scene as a result.

Self Portraits

One of the biggest influences on my photography has been the work of Vivian Maier. We are so lucky that someone took the time to discover and present her work. We sadly cannot ask any of the many questions that her work rise but it is clear she was on a journey of self discovery and that of the world around her. I have been able to take a long hard look at myself through self portraiture and it is an avenue of my photography I will continue to develop and explore.

Railways

One of my favourite subjects to photograph are Railways, especially Heritage Railways such as Didcot Railway Centre and Peak Rail.

Street Photography

One area of photography that I find difficult and outside my comfort zone is street photography. From the very beginning I vowed never to make anyone feel uncomfortable with my camera which is why most of my street photography is taken from a distance. It is strange but if you walk around with a mobile phone up in front of you taking photographs most people to no blink an eye yet do the same with a camera and suddenly it becomes an issue.
